What is a Restorative Yoga?

''Restorative yoga is the use of props to create positions of ease and comfort that facilitate relaxation and health. Restorative yoga is a practice in and of itself for people of all ages, at all levels of yoga experience, and in all states of health''    - Judith Hanson Lasater

Why Should We Practice a Restorative Yoga?

Life encourages us to be productive and always exist in our hyper state of 'doing', yet we often forget our natural state of 'being'. Multitasking may be a key goal in Western society, yet it often drives us to be overworked and sleep-deprived, reducing our ability to maintain a harmonious lifestyle of health and joy. This is where restorative yoga comes in, to do its magic as a profound therapeutic practice that cares for our physical, mental, and emotional healing.

In restorative yoga, deep relaxation is achieved by holding a small selection of poses for an extended 10-20 minutes each during one yoga class. When practiced consistently, Restorative Yoga Practice can continuously boost the body's ability to work internally on physiological and spiritual well-being.

Practicing restorative yoga gives your body the safe haven it needs to focus on rebalancing the parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest), ensuring the body is restored, relaxed, healed, and functioning in harmony, naturally.

Restorative yoga postures help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely. During deep relaxation, all the organ systems of the body are benefited. A few of the measurable results of relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure and the improvement of immune function, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination and the reduction of muscle tension and general fatigue.

In this Level 1 RYTT, you will learn the art and skill of teaching Restorative Yoga.

All aspects of the subject will be covered, including the physiology of relaxation, the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of Restorative Yoga, special poses for menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause, and how to sequence and teach a class in Restorative Yoga.

About the Teacher

Teaching yoga means imprinting an active experience on the student’s body, mind, and soul. It begins on the mat, and then flows-on endlessly, aligning the student’s yoga-vitality with their reality. This is how I help practitioners turn yoga into life. Together, we ignite infinite possibilities for transformation.

As a senior practitioner and teacher to the teachers, I believe deeply that yoga is a personal space of exploration into the infinite opportunities made available to us each. My focus is on channeling knowledge and insight that enables others to set-off on a journey of discovery, recovery, and renewal. Yoga creates us from the inside, building the best versions of who we can be.

My personal path led me to unify diverse therapeutic modalities, integrating science into the traditional yoga practice by grounding it in kinesiology and anatomy. This forges an empowering framework for teachers, where we can reconnect with the authentic core of yoga and find refuge in our own self-practice. A lengthy rehabilitation process has also given me profound insight into the gift of healing. By unleashing the power of the body’s consciousness through yoga, we can all regenerate and restore our wellbeing, the ultimate natural state. This is the light of yoga, transcending time and space through a chain of teachers to reach us today, so that we can truly engage our own students and spark their flame.
