What is stress?
Stress: In a medical term is a physical, mental, or emotional influence that causes bodily or emotional tensions. External stress factors are influenced by our environment, psychological state and our social settings. Internal stresses are medically or congenitally related illnesses both physical and mental, medications or substance misuse, lack of exercise & incorrect nutrition. Stress is a daily part of life in some form or another and cannot be totally eradicated however when stress starts to present as disease, discomfort or emotions we can no longer manage, it is time to address the root cause and implement some stress reduction & management tools. We cannot function at our best capacity physically or mentally unless we are in full, good, overall health.
Who is this package for?
Stress Management is for everyone. Modern life is fast paced and often we are unaware of the reasons why we are feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, to the point we may not even realise we are experiencing stress and its negative outcomes within us. Making the connection from our stress levels to our physical and emotional wellbeing is the first step in reducing our stored up stress energies and dispersing our negative thoughts to better manage our stress levels going forward, for a more manageable life & improved wellbeing.
We can all be guilty of neglecting ourselves and not finding the time to indulge in as much self-care or self-love as we deserve & truly need. It is imperative we take time for ourselves for a happy and long-lasting future.
Benefits of our Stress Management Program
Our goal is to support you in firstly recognizing what is causing your stress & how this presents in you as an individual. We do this using an Ayurvedic system of assessing your dosha constution. We assess you, as a person above anything else.
Secondly, creating your program with aims of reducing your stress and anxiety. Guiding your thoughts to a more positive path, improving sleep patterns, introducing movement and appropriate nutrition to suit your body type. Providing a nurturing & serene space where you can indulge in stress reducing therapies & learn stress management skills to utilise long after your stay with us.
Our aim is to encourage self-reflection & support you in the realignment of your physical, emotional & spiritual energies resulting in a well balanced & stronger you.
At Devarya we give focus to five R’s
Reflection – Our doctor & holistic therapists will support you to analyze your current stress influences and how to make sustainable, positive changes to your daily life. During your program we encourage personal reflection and note writing of any feelings & thoughts that may arise as you emotionally cleanse. Keeping a diary is also useful as a reflection tool to be used as part of your after care routine, a reminder of what works for you & what your highlighted stress influencers are, so you can better manage them.
Relaxation – Devarya is an ideal space to take a solid break from the demands of life, the retreat centre is a quiet place surrounded by tropical fauna & the soothing ocean. We have two swimming pools & a private beach area to unwind and relax. During your program we encourage you to take a digital detox from all computers and phones. WiFi is provided only at the restaurant, so your bedroom becomes a place of peace & rest. We do not have TVs in our rooms to allow for a rested night’s sleep or the companionship of a book or two.
Rejuvenation– We want you to flow back into your daily life feeling emotionally lighter & looking brighter. You will attend two daily yoga classes & we encourage daily beach walks to keep you moving. Yoga is a mind-body practice that merges physical postures, conscious breathing, and meditation. Yoga has been proven to aid stress reduction & we know that movement is medicine. Goa has year round sunshine which boosts our serotonin levels, also known as the ‘happiness hormone’ it helps to stimulate the body’s levels of vitamin D. Ayurvedic & holistic therapies will be given to reduce stress, but also improve circulation, release toxins & stagnant emotions, improve sleep & settle the mind to a stiller being.
Renew – Renew from the inside out. Your meals will be freshly prepared with organic & purely vegetarian dishes, giving your digestive system time to detoxify from heavy foods. We advise you follow a no alcohol and no smoking regime and drink at least 2.5 - 3 litres of room temperature water per day. Ginger & lemon tea is available from sunrise until sunset to gently aid the digestive cleansing. You will be provided with regular basti enemas to release the system of toxins and any constipation, which is a common internal stress factor. Our doctor will advise on foods you should avoid according to your Ayurvedic constitution [Vata, Pitta, Kapha]
Restoration – During your stress management program you will be re-balancing the physical, emotional & spiritual bodies. Leaving with a new lease of fresh positive energy & skills for continuation of your stress reduction and management. This program is more than just a stress retreat, it is an opportunity to be guided onto a new path of self discovery and restoration.
