The Ayurveda method of healing and wellbeing is one of the world's oldest holistic systems, dating back more than 3,000 years ago, here in India. Incorporated in the Atharva Veda, the last of the four Vedas it is based on the idea of balance in our bodily system. Ayurveda works on the basis that every person is made of five basic elements found in the universe: space, air, fire, water, and earth.

If your mind, body, and spirit are in harmony with the universal energy, you will have good health. When something disrupts this balance, such as injury, emotions, age, seasonal change or even lifestyle, you will become unwell & full of dis-ease. The five elements combine in the human body to make three life forces “doshas”. We all have a unique combination of the doshas but one dosha is usually more prominent and this throws off our balance. Ayurveda uses the knowledge of our doshas to bring harmony and wellness back to us, by restoring our dosha balance during treatments, therapies and lifestyle changes.

Ayurveda - “Ayus” means life and “Veda” for knowledge in Sanskrit - is the science of life. Ayurveda is one of the oldest medical systems in the world. During your consultancy, your “Dosha” will be determined by our Ayurvedic Doctor from Vata, Pitta and Kapha. You will be advised on the best nutrition, therapies, treatments and lifestyle changes according to your dosha, in order to follow a personalised wellbeing path during your stay with us and beyond.

Rejuvenate yourself with Ayurvedic Massages at a time of your choosing, these will be holistic full body massages with oils used, based on your dosha and physical need.

Recentre with our Shirodhara treatment - shiro meaning head and dhara meaning flow. An Ayurveda therapy that involves continuously pouring warm, herbal oil over the forehead; also known as the Ajna Chakra. An area of highly concentrated nerves & containing the circulation of our vital life force, or prana. The flow of oil onto the forehead creates a vibration whilst the oil saturates the forehead and scalp, penetrating deep into the nervous system. The gentle pressure and soothing warmth of the oil will allow the body, mind and nervous system to experience a deep state of rest, only comparable with deep meditation. Relax during your Indian Head Massage treatment. Massage techniques based solely on therapeutic touch over the scalp, head, face and shoulders to induce deep relaxation. Aiming to restore balance by working with the three higher chakras. Vishuddha, our throat chakra, Ajna, also known as our third eye and Sahasrara, our crown chakra. Focusing on areas of the body that hold the most stress, your tension will melt away leaving a sense of total calm. Leaving you with a sense of light being.

Additional Information

Start your day off with a dynamic yoga class at 8:00am in one of our spacious and airy roof top yoga shalas. Followed by fresh fruit juices and a healthy wellness buffet breakfast in our beach front restaurant. Nalanda Retreat is located next to the shores of the Arabian sea, which is a safe place to swim and relax in peace, with private beach access and loungers via our restaurant. You can use your free time to soak up the sun, go on leisurely walks, enjoy incredible sunsets on our beach and explore the beautiful state of Goa & its local attractions. Afternoon yoga at 4:00pm is a slower, more gentle class easing you into the evening. Buffet evening meal with fresh salads and authentically prepared Indian delicacies are served from 7 pm. Round off your day with one of our evening activities at 8:00pm including kirtan, meditation, classical Indian music.
